Philosophy

I believe that every human being is called to a path leading toward the “true self” or an authentic, congruent identity. Every person has an essential, God-given individuality – their unique “inner gold” – that is meant to be shared with a larger community. We are meant to be who we really are, and one important purpose of life is for us to discover, express and share our true self with the world. Conversely, I believe that emotional dysfunction and mental illness arise when we are not living authentically; i.e. when our outer lives are not congruent with our true inner self.

I believe in the inherent goodness, worth, and dignity of every human being. I believe that fundamentally, people are trustworthy; that they have enormous potential for understanding themselves and resolving their problems; that they are capable of self-directed growth if they are involved in a specific type of relationship with a coach. My core values are freedom, choice, responsibility, autonomy, purpose and meaning.

The ultimate goal of my work with clients is “wellness.” Wellness is not just freedom from illness. Wellness is a state of optimal well-being oriented toward maximizing an individual’s potential. It is a life-long process of enhancing your physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial well-being and fulfillment of your potential. Wellness is an active, dynamic process of becoming increasingly aware of, and making choices toward, a healthier, more effective, functional, and personally rewarding life.

The ultimate benefit is a fulfilling life that’s healthy and balanced, including, potentially, a more fulfilling career, more fulfilling and balanced relationships, and better mental and spiritual health. The client experiences a sense of relief, hope, and direction, perhaps for the first time in a long while. They experience a sense of direction and purpose, belonging, spiritual growth, enlightenment, clarity, choices, freedom, motivation, and independence.
